With the aim of promoting local food producers and reducing transport greenhouse gases emissions, Carcaixent city council is going to offer a pilot public service of food home delivery for municipal market shops.
Supported by GARDEN project funds and Consorci de la Ribera, Carcaixent is currently conducting the works of installing an electric vehicle charging station at municipal market. In parallel, the terms of reference for acquiring the electric van have been prepared and the call is expected to be published in mid-June.
Carcaixent pilot will be completed with the installation of a solar photovoltaic plant in the municipal football pitch by the end of 2025.

The Municipal Urban Action Plan (MUAP) of Carcaixent includes an action line focusing on the promotion of local businesses and products, that envisages the execution of actions to support the local businesses and agriculture, as well as to encourage the consumption of products produced in the municipality territory and local enterprises. Another priority for Carcaixent city council is to calm traffic in city center providing more space for active travel (pedestrians and cyclists).
For both objectives, city of Carcaixent is participating in GARDEN project as a pilot site, offering an innovative pilot public service of food home delivery for municipal market 40 shops consisting on an electric vehicle for food products delivery. This electric van service will be fed by a electric charging station located next to the market. Finally, electricity supplied by the referred charging station will be provided by a solar photovoltaic plant installed in the municipal football pitch installation.
In this manner, Carcaixent municipal market businesses are going to offer a more eviromental-friendly agro-food products delivery service that will be capable to produce the green electricity needed to transport local food products at customers’ home.
To the moment, pilot intervention are ongoing. The electric vehicle charging station contract was awarded and construction works are ongoing. Meanwhile, electric van bid specifications are completed and will be launched by mid-June 2025. At last, Consorci de la Ribera is defining the technical design documents of the solar photovoltaic plant that will be built by the end of 2025.
